Executives

Catherine Hsu, Chairperson

Catherine Hsu is a grade 12 at Burnaby Central and is delighted to serve as the Chairperson for Beyond STEM. Fascinated by the vast diversity of academic disciplines in STEM, she is determined to lead the team's mission in helping others get involved and discover their passions along the way. When she is not planning the next event, you may find her buried in her study notes or near your local ice cream parlour. Currently, Catherine is also volunteering alongside a psychiatric research group at BC Children’s Hospital and running the school’s First Aid Team.

Ellie Li, Co-Director of Logistics

Ellie Li is enrolled in grade 11 at Burnaby Central, and she is excited to serve as the Director of Logistics for Beyond STEM. When she is not cramming for her upcoming AP exams and SATs, you can either find Ellie playing Ultimate Frisbee during her spare time or dining in a poké restaurant with her friends. Aside from Beyond STEM, Ellie is involved in The Hot Potato Initiative as a Chapter Director for Burnaby Central, and she also serves as a co-head for Charity Brighouse. She is looking forward to creating more opportunities for the youth and helping them with discovering their own passions in the fields of STEM.

Erin Flood, Co-Director of Logistics

Erin Flood is excited to be one of the Co-Directors of Logistics for Beyond STEM. She has a passion for mathematics and biology, especially animals. Erin is looking forward to overseeing all conferences and workshops, ensuring the details are fulfilled. She is an organized hard worker and you can commonly find her studying for tests and completing homework or finishing a project for one of the many clubs she is involved in. During her free time, she enjoys playing ultimate frisbee and soccer, rock climbing, and trying new activities. As a part of the Beyond STEM executive team, Erin is delighted to be working with the other talented members to inspire students to pursue STEM.

Samantha Loutet, Director of Relations

Sam Loutet is a grade 12 student at Burnaby Central with a love for science and talking too much. Most days, you can find her either procrastinating doing her homework or at Burnaby Lake. As a member of Team BC Canoe/Kayak, she's almost always on the water or coaching the younger kids at her club. Additionally, she's a writer for her school's newspaper and in choir. This year she is dedicating almost all of her free time to being Beyond STEM's Director of Relations, with the goal of helping other students find a passion in STEM.

Wasay Hayat, Director of Finance

Wasay Hayat is a grade 12 student at Burnaby Central who is ecstatic to serve as the Director of Finance for Beyond STEM. An aspiring statistician himself, he is excited to help his fellow students realize their own passions in science. Outside of keeping Beyond STEM's budget intact and keeping its members busy with fun activities, Wasay is regularly discovered blowing through 2 books at a time or eating pancakes. Wasay is also the President of Central’s Business Club.

Ricky Mao, Director of Technology

Ricky Mao is currently in grade 12. Apart from being Director of Technology for Beyond Stem, Ricky runs a programming club. He codes in Java and Swift, and in his free time, enjoys making mobile applications. When he isn't coding, you can find Ricky hiking, playing badminton, or reading a nice novel.

Elyse Wong, Director of Media

Elyse Wong is a grade 12 student at Burnaby Central. As the Director of Media for Beyond STEM, Elyse's role is to promote the organization and its events through social media and other forms of advertisement. Besides her passion for STEM, Elyse enjoys playing volleyball and taking photos, and is also the Director of Marketing for The Hot Potato Initiative. When she’s not on the court or stressing about school, you can likely find her memorizing all the lines to every single episode of Modern Family. Elyse is very excited to be part of the Beyond STEM team and to help other students discover opportunities in the STEM field.

Emme Dragon, Director of Marketing

Emme Dragon is a grade 11 student and is motivated to get others involved and interested in STEM at school. When she’s not at school, you’re most likely to find her at one of the Lower Mainland’s many ice rinks, either playing or officiating hockey. In her free time, she enjoys travelling and playing the guitar. Emme is very excited to see what this year holds for Beyond STEM.

Katrina Loutet, Secretary

Katrina Loutet is a grade 12 student at Burnaby Central who is thrilled to share her passion for science and serve as Beyond STEM's Secretary this year. Outside of school, Kat is a kayaker on Team BC. When she's not at the lake training, you can probably find her coaching, running, or at the gym. Additionally, Kat is a Chapter Director for The Hot Potato Initiative. In her free time, she enjoys playing the saxophone, reading, hiking, ultimate frisbee, and travelling.
